1 Day

Overview

Located just 67 kilometers east of Quito , Papallacta is a mountain village in the province of Napo at an elevation of 3,300 meters above sea level . It’s best known for its natural mineral hot springs , with water temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C , making it a top spot for relaxation and wellness tourism.

This beautiful Andean town belongs to the Quijos canton and is surrounded by vast paramo ecosystems , where native flora and fauna have adapted to cold, high-altitude conditions.

During your visit, you’ll enjoy scenic trails through the paramo, and on clear days, you can catch stunning views of two of Ecuador’s most iconic volcanoes: Antisana and Cotopaxi .

Papallacta is also an important source of drinking water for Quito and serves as a starting point for mountaineering expeditions to the Antisana Volcano , one of the highest peaks in the country.

Another highlight is the Papallacta Lagoon , perfect for recreational trout fishing and surrounded by breathtaking scenery ideal for short hikes and birdwatching.

Whether you’re looking to unwind in natural hot springs or explore high-altitude adventures, Papallacta offers a unique blend of nature, tranquility, and Andean beauty.
