Chimborazo is located in the central region of Ecuador, within the majestic Andes mountain range. This imposing stratovolcano is the highest peak in the country, reaching an elevation of 20,564 feet (6,268 meters) above sea level. Although it is considered inactive since its last recorded eruption in 1892, its snow-capped summit remains a top destination for adventurers and nature lovers.
The area surrounding Chimborazo is part of the Chimborazo Fauna Reserve , a protected natural space that shelters unique species such as the Andean condor and vicuña. Its ecological and geographical significance makes it one of the most visited spots by both local and international tourists interested in mountaineering, hiking, and immersive nature experiences.
Moreover, due to its location on the equator, Chimborazo is known as the closest point on Earth to the sun, thanks to the planet’s slight bulge at the equatorial level.
